The creation of the project “Born to read” at the Library of Sabac was inspired by international experiences of providing library services for babies and children up to the age of 3. The project seeks to raise parents’ awareness of the abilities of their children to positively react to sensory experiences produced by reading and storytelling. Workshops are held twice a month on the premises of the Children’s reading room at the Library of Sabac. Apart from fostering children’s love of books and reading, this initiative also gives parents the opportunity to talk to experts from a range of professional fields (paediatricians, psychologists, speech therapists, nutritionists, early years educators…) about issues related to infant and child development, exchange experiences with other parents and get advice.
In this way, the library becomes a meeting point for an important part of the community, recognises and acknowledges the needs of its users, educates them and makes them feel welcome on its premises.
The video features interviews with the librarians of the Children’s department of the Library of Sabac, who designed and set up the project,Dragana Gajić, Marija Vuković and Biljana Bogojević, and the parents of the children who participate in the workshopsSanja Cvejić, Marija Matić and Vesna Knežević.
