Planet Reader
Handbook on reader engagement in public libraries
Today’s digital era, when knowledge can be accessed electronically, raises the question what should be the role of the library? How will this cultural institution, which has been preserving knowledge since the beginning of time and has had the function of a key educator, be fitted in the life of a modern man?
Where do these two sets – the public library and its audience – intersect?
The Planet Reader was conceptualised as a guidebook aimed to promote best practices, innovative and high quality methods of approaching users. This bilingual edition presents eight case studies selected on several crtieria, and the most important ones include: the intention to present the diversity of library services and the role of library in the life of a community. The objective was to present examples which illustrate various types of libararies and their targeted users.
